Was playing GDI on walls flying the other day, when managed to sneak into base via tunnel and around airstrip to see many light tanks sitting there, because someone on NoD pre-purchased them and let them sit until taken.
Well needless to say their intentions were in the right place but so was I when took out there ref with their purchase. All I have to say really is.. is don't by vehicles unless going to be used instead of just sitting around for enemy to take and destroy your own base. Might be a good idea if done with a map that has ob/agt, less likely to be taken freely. Smile

I found that out the hard way on Islands. I bought lots of flamers, kept yelling at people to get in them and then GDI started to get in them. Ugh. Mad

If you ever see people buy tanks and just leave them there, blow them up with a free engineer, and save the best one for yourself. It's always a real disaster if the enemy gets a powerful tank inside your base...

Its fine to do on a map like under or hourglass, as long as base defences are up.

well you shouldnt really do it then because what if an apc full of people come? or what if they destroy base defenses and men rush in?? its dangerous ( for lack of a better word ) to leave tanks just sitting there un-used because of the threat of the other team. but thats just me speaking from experience cause when i was a noob a long time ago i did the same thing and ive never done it since even with defenses " gaurding " my base.
well gotta go........snipe ya all later Smile

Well, what reason is there to leave unoccupied tanks in the middle of your base? They obviously aren't helping your team or hurting the other. They're just loose assets. Now, sometimes, if I've been point whoring  for a while then I will buy people on my team tanks, but only on request. That helps the team. Buying tanks and leaving them there doesnt.

Well usually its going to be limit reached anyways. It is good to do if you have no ref and people ask for tanks.

If an enemy unit purchases a vehicle, and it arrives there. You (obviouly) can't get into it, but if you manage to kill them while they are running to it, you can steal it right away Very Happy

But if there are like 4 people on your team, don't be an idiot and buy 20 mammoth tanks.

If I had cash left over when I was about to leave, I would buy a few tanks with my cash and let them take it. But only do that with maps that have working base defences.

I noticed that even then it seems to take a while for the tank to be "unlocked", i.e. I can't get in until after x seconds Mad

That is true, there is a time limit before anybody else but the purchaser of the vehicle can get in. I guess I am the only one who actually reads the updates and readme files westwood puts up. I think that the time limit is actually 15 seconds.

Solution to buying people tanks. Dont devote youself to it, ask once or twice on team chat, and make sure they know that you have to be contacted about it.

For some reason, people just don't ever seem to care about free tanks. They think that it is a waste of precious time. It ain't I love getting a free tank, and returning the favor.

Also, teammembers stealing your tanks? Just let them have it, and tell them they can. They usually back you up, and eventually, you will have enough money for another vehicle. I even sometimes back them up. But that is just me.

I have never had this problem and I've bought tanks for my whole team in many games... After playing for maybe 20 minutes or a half hour and I see were in a stalemate I'll run to the airfield and spend all my money on flame tanks and yell hop in free flamers gonna go rush. So everyone gets in, we go and win! On the inside I'm like w00t I helped...

He means exactly what he said. The time limit that dis-allows anyone other than the buyer of the vehicle becomes void when the buyer buys more than 1 vehicle, and anyone can enter.

Thats what furyman77 said, but despite my lengthy explanation, its wrong. Time limit stays for all vehicles.

I once killed a guy on Canyon who had just bought a stank. I yelled twice at my team that there was a free stank. I must have killed atleast 7 guys trying to get into it. A couple minutes later a hotwire ran and got in Very Happy

And no the limit is not voided if you buy second tank. In actuality you have thirty seconds to get inot you vehicle. After that, anyone is allowed to get in, even ppl on the other team.

People on the other team can get into a vehicle as soon as it is made. I know this because I have done it several times with cloaked Black Hands. And this is with the latest patch. But, there is still a time limit for people on your own team.

EDIT - Please disregard this statement - I proved myself wrong on this yesterday.

not the other team man, there is a time limit that u can't i know, i APC in islands alot and camp those vechs, u press "e" on them and i wont let u in, so u wait for the green arrows. Also buying the second tank is stupid unless there are more ppl there, sometimes the wait is on, if u buy it, go in then out, so others can use it, there is a time limit, you just dont notice it prob.

I am pretty sure that is correct. However you may have to get in at least one of the tanks you purchase before others can get in them.
I will look into this and try to get the text right . But dang, so many different conclusions, I know one of them has to be right.

any way, i remember once that a teammate bought two tanks, he got in one and i got in the other, no problems. [/i]

I made another post that (hopefully) corrected this statement. Any way, It some times works out this way, if you buy a humvee, and another team member buys a mammy, both the humvee and the mammy will have the green arrows that might allow you to get in. I haven't actually tried this, because it would most likely get me banned.
