As you may know, Tiberium Technologies lost our original build server recently, and although we've managed to setup a new server for the 5.0 branches, the 4.x (Renegade) branch currently has not been. This is due to it still having windows XP support which makes it vastly more complex to setup. We were just wondering how many players still play Renegade with Windows XP?

If anyone is playing on MS-DOS I would want to know who wrote the magic software that allows you to run a 32 bit Windows binary on an MS-DOS install.

I wouldn't recommend putting up a poll like this on this forum, knowing that the votes you'll get from the viewerbase is quite biased. I'd recommend you asking MPF and RC to set up their own poll to get more accurate results going, but even then it would not be ideal. I have a suspicion that most people playing Renegade with XP would do so in an internet cafe with antiquated PC's or young children from families that have been given their own throwaway laptop/desktop. I don't think you'll get any of those people voting on a poll here.
Professional moron. Nice to meet ya.

Scripts 5.0 will not be made compatible with XP ever so dont even suggest it.
Why would being compatible with XP (or using an older compiler) help with anti-cheat?

It sounds like he's referring to any XP users not being able to install scripts...to not cheat(or to install XP to cheat).
We do still get non-scripts people, just seen two new ones this week.

Personally I think that scripts development should continue if people are willing and able to do so, If there is no problems other than dropping support for an old OS then using the new branch should be given the go ahead.
People are indirectly forced to upgrade from XP nowadays because there is no support for it anyway.
Your team have done wonders for Renegade, from bug fixes to anti-cheat and I hope that continues

I don't think Jonwil means an exact copy of the 5.0 branch, just dropping xp support and using the same build tools. If it were an exact copy, a lot of things would break in Renegade.

Yeah the options I am picking between are:
1.Stop all development on the 4.x branch (not really something I want to do but it may happen)
2.Figure out how to properly build the 4.x version and get a build server going for it
or 3.Migrate the 4.x branch to Visual Studio 2017 and build things the same way as we do on the 5.x branch which means dropping XP support
So far one person has voted "yes" on the "I use XP" poll and it wouldn't surprise me if there are people out there playing Renegade on XP who dont follow forums etc and dont even know that XP support might be going away.

I have seen enough evidence of XP use in that rencorner in-game poll to conclude that we cant drop XP support without loosing players.

Your response to Vista is priceless lol. I skipped that piece of crap and went to Win 7. I'll keep it until I'm forced to update. Win 10 can bite my ass, damn thing was not geared toward utility.
Out of those guys who voted XP, I'd take iB-BEDO with a grain of salt. He changed it three times until I yelled at him to pick one.
Also on our ingame pollings: it's more accurate 1-2 weeks into it.

In any case we have the build server working again for 4.x using the same compiler we were using before which means the new builds going forward will have exactly the same OS support as the old builds did.
