1)I will be taking the CISCO academy during fall semester that will take me one year to finish, and to become certified, does anyone know the normal range of hourly base pay?

2)Does anyone recommend, "or if there is any", books on learning the basic OS of Linux

1.) I got CCENT certification a while back if that's what your talking about, no idea about the pay though.

2.) What I'd recommend the most is installing Linux on one of your machines, getting a VPS, or even a dedicated server to learn on. Books are great but you need to apply your knowledge. Let me know if you want an account on one of my boxes to screw around in. I have BSD boxes too, if you're interested.

Haha, just noticed the date. Sorry for the bump, I didn't realize this was such an underactive area in the forum so I thought it'd be newer.

the best thing to do is to use virtual box when you first start expeimenting with the diffrent linux distrbutions. You can still use windows as your main os and then install several diffrent os to diffrent files.
