So my Renegade disk must be scratched or something because during installation it always stalls at something like 98% and then gets an error.

I have decided now to try and play Renegade online via my TFD (the First Decade) dvd. After installing Renegade and downloading patch 1.01 and 1.02 for TFD, I get a pop up in-game that says "your current version of westwood online is incompatible with this product". I downloaded renguard instead, thinking that I could get around this loophole. There are now three game executables in my Renegade folder but with two of them I receive an error: 00000005 with the title of the error pop up being my current version of renguard (1.0323).

My question is can anyone help sort this out? My only goal is to be able to play Renegade online once more. I have a Renegade cd which freezes at the end of installation, a TFD dvd, and of course, the all powerful INTERNET.

A cookie to the first person who finds a fix.
Thanks.

Goztow, I read your stickie and it still won't work, which is why I posted a thread. Perhaps I didn't make myself clear... I tried your nine easy steps when I couldn't get it to work the first couple times around and still, no success! I think it may be because it's on TFD and not just Renegade by itself. I dunno. That's why I'm asking for help.

Still open to any suggestions.

Retracing my steps I found that when I try to unzip CP2 into my Renegade folder I get an error. What I did earlier to remedy this was to unzip to desktop and manually move the file into the folder. However, on the site that tells you how to install the core patches, it says that after you unzip the file (patchall is the file), run the executable. Well when I unzip it, even to desktop, there is no .exe file there. Just a "PATCHALL.RTP". Maybe this is where I've gone wrong?
Here's what my situation looks like...

Maybe CP2 is rendered useless because of the TFD patches already installed?

OK, so I've done all the installing and patching possible and recommended, and I am still where I started. The game runs, but says this when I go to online play

Once again... I just want to play online. Can anyone give me a link to xwis or whatever is currently the online play portion for this game? I hear that WOL closed down or something.

Thanks for all your help.

Right, your problem is Vista. The 000005 error is explained in the RG FAQ on www.renegadecommunity.com and I think also in the FAQ on top of this page. It's related to Vista's admin mode.

Follow the 9 steps one per one, each time testing after a step, if it worked. Run the setups in admin mode to make sure all changes are correctly installed in the registry.

The reinstall of WOL is also explained in the FAQ sticky and was repeated by a forum member in your other support request Smile.

For the manual Core Patch installer, you need both archives unzipped into the Renegade folder. Patcher.zip and patchall.zip/cp2.zip. Also, errors like that usually mean you need to redownload the file.

Well after downloading just about everything from patches to programs, I finally got it working! Wish I had Renguard up and running but I'm not even going to touch that. As long as I can get on I'll be happy.

Thanks everyone for all of your help. I really do appreciate it.
