Yeah I wouldn't install anything made by Norton...

then you're a moron because ghost is probably one of the best and most effective image programs. (at least 8.0 and earlier.)
|
Saying Ghost is bad proves he knows nothing about the product. Not all products from symantec are bad.
But there is definitly better out there. If you want to have more freedom go with Acronis True Image.
The first question for TS is whats your budget? Because Ghost/Acronis normally costs money.
There is free programs/opensourced out there though that will be able to do what you want. Google, if you want to have some of the more pro stuff hyrens *hint*

And where did I say that Ghost wasn't effective? I just said I wouldn't install anything thats related to Norton.
|
Oh, the irony is just AMAZING. Ever stop to think that you might be the one putting words into someone else's mouth?
He didn't say you thought it was ineffective. He said you're a moron because you're refusing to use a good program because of it being a Norton product.
|
Right and he called me a moron because he believes Norton is an effective imaging program and because I said not to install, somehow translates into it doesn't work very well.

Look around the net for Hiren's Boot CD. You can boot off it and it has a whole variety of cloning utilities. Actually I would recommend Ghost as your first choice, and Acronis TrueImage as your second.
Do NOT go out and get the new version of Ghost, because they've changed the product to something completely different.

It could always be used, or sold as a 'conversation starting paperweight' .

if its only 3 months old isnt there a warranty you can claim on it? i mean its of no use to you now, so you could send it back to the manufacturer and not be bothered by the long waiting time.

Your warranty is more than likely voided for the external drive, but odds are the manufacturer of the external drive didn't manufacture the hard drive inside - which may still be under warranty. If you can't figure out who made it though, you're kinda S.O.L. You can try to Google the code that comes up for the drive in your BIOS.
