ok so often bands like boyzone or take that or Britney spears... ,all those crappy bands that 13 year olds love, well they mime(just move lips) the words when they perform rather than actually singing.

personally i believe this removes the integrity of the performance because the audience are paying to see a live performance, but instead the audience just pay alot of money to see someone dance around.

On the other hand it has been argued that it is very difficult for the singers to sing and dance etc at the same time.

So em... to quote the infamous rocko

I believe the more popular term for that is "lip syncing".

People are getting ripped off just buying crappy pop records already. Then they're paying even more money to be ripped off whether the "artist" lip syncs or not.

whoa.

They probably pre-recorded.

If the song sounds like it's from the cd, then it's lip sync (most likely), otherwise, it isn't (most likely).

But, I don't really care about the matter...

I've never been to a concert. I'd imagine that they'd suck, cause when I see vids of concerts, there's always those groups of people screaming over the music.

Bullshit.

If you're a good artist you can sing/play and dance no problem.

For example... this little known band.

I think it sucks when an "artist" lip-syncs...sadly though, most seem to be popular anyway, even though its obvious they are just going through the motions, because apparently the fans just want to see the artist gyrate around and go OMG OMG OMG.

@nikki6ixx, nice one pulling Van Halen out, I hope they are not really "little known" already Sad You are absolutely right though as a great example of how real artists can sing, even while playing an instrument and dancing or just doing wild shit on stage.

Depends what you want to see. A concert, or a continuous action flick.

With lip-syncing, you get those "amazing" stunts that can be done. As the person is not really singing, the performer is able to do more things while trying to "maintain" a good singing voice.

With live singing, they are more restrcited because flying around and such will impact the continuous tones that good singing requires.

If people go to concerts for the theatrics rather than the music, then they should just go watch wresting.

I go to concerts for the live music. I don't want to hear pre-recorded bullshit playing through the speakers while the "artist" does his/her best acting job to make it look like they can belt it out. I'd rather watch a concert with David Draimon walking around on stage, singing than go see a band moving about on stage mouthing the lyrics to their music. I everybody else agreed, but nope... there has to be idiots.

whoa.

I'm with Cheesesoda, I want to HEAR things at a MUSIC concert, call me old fashioned, but...

My sister would never lip sync, her stage act involves sitting at a piano and playing and singing, and it's the quality of the music that gets attention, as it should be.

Theatrics are for actors.

Many pop artists lip sync because they actually really do suck at singing in real life. When they are making the album, the people at the recording studio can do all sorts of audio magic to make it sound much better.

As someone pointed out, some people sound bad because they are also jumping around and stuff at the same time, which can greatly impact your singing ability.

Some artists (Jessica Simpson comes to mind) actually sing live, but IMO it would be better if they just lip synced.

I disagree. Performers are supposed to be professionals at their talent. They should be able to jump around and sing AND possibly play instruments at the same time.

You're right. I'm saying that some just aren't, and that's why they suck.

The plus side to live show lip-syncing is that if something bad happens to the singer's voice, like they get sick or something, they are still able to perform because it is prerecorded.
