Sorry, but you fail... miserably. Vikings are an overrated bunch of outdated warriors hellbent on stupid things like domination rather than what's really important... stealing Spanish gold and using wenches, and abiding by no government, not even your own.

There'd be no way. They'd have to stow away on the ship after docking, and that won't happen as the pirates will be stocking the ship full of rum and food.

If I can dig up the news story, I will, but recently a bunch of pirates tried to take a cruise ship using grenade launchers and automatic rifles, but were turned away because the cruise ship used sonar on them, or some shit, and the pirates couldn't handle it. What wimps.

Relatives of the norwegians. Some other countries (Danmark, Sweden) tried to make their own vikings. They failed. The norwegian vikings ruled Europe, scared the crap out of anyone else, drank "mjød" (bier), fucked "kjerringer" (big breasted norwegian women), had names like "Blood axe" and made "svenskevitser" (jokes) of the other scandinavians.
Some vikings still live in Norway today.

MIAMI — The crew of a luxury cruise ship used a sonic weapon that blasts earsplitting noise in a directed beam while being attacked by a gang of pirates off Africa this weekend, the cruise line said Monday.
The Seabourn Spirit had a Long Range Acoustic Device, or LRAD, installed as a part of its defense systems, said Bruce Good, a spokesman for Miami-based Seabourn Cruise Line. The Spirit was about 100 miles off Somalia when pirates fired rocket-propelled grenades and machine guns as they tried to get onboard.
The subsidiary of Carnival Corp. was investigating whether the weapon was successful in warding off the pirates, he said. The ship's captain also changed its course, shifted into high speed and headed out into the open sea to elude the pirates, who were in two small boats, he said. He had no further details.

If I could choose to drop my lifestyle I live now to live the life style of either a Pirate, Viking, Ninja, or Samurai, I would pick the Samurai. Secondly, I would pick the Pirate. I like both, but I personally like the Samurai lifestyle better.

You silly silly man. You can't sneak up on a Viking. Vikings are NEVER off guard. If they were, how would they conquer Europe? Vikings invented tactical manuevers like the flank. How do you sneak up on someone who invented sneaking up? You can't.
Ninjas specialize in hiding in the shadows and attacking at the best moment, but Vikings invented the ambush. How do you ambush someone who invented the ambush? You can't.
1v1, Ninja vs Viking, the Viking would win, because:
- Vikings are much, much manlier.
- Vikings have the superior horned-helm of protection.
- Vikings are well-trained in all forms off badassery and weaponry.
- Vikings have absolute control of the sea, and therefore have the advantage of being able to call in artilery strikes
What do ninjas have? Skintight black clothing.
Vikings > Pirates > Ninjas > Scientology > Paris Hilton

Only page 2 for me.
The trade off of world conquest and not being under a government is really up to personal taste. I'd rather be a Viking, but I see that j_ball has a different set of values.
There's really only one way to settle this:
1v1, Viking vs Pirate. Viking would win, because Battle Axes > Cutlasses.
Ship vs ship, Viking Longboat vs Pirate whatever, Vikings win since nobody in history has been able to best the Vikings in the sea.
Army vs Army, Viking vs Pirate. Vikings would win, because Pirates have no army.
3/3. Vikings > Pirates.
And just to add the icing on top of the cake, Vikings star in one of the most sucessful--and addictive--video games of all time. Has anyone ever heard of "The Lost Pirates" or "The Lost Ninjas"? No, because they aren't as cool as Vikings.

Fair enough. In hand-to-hand combat (Which Pirates are greatly romanticed for), Vikings would win. In ranged combat, I declare a tie since:
- Viking bows reload faster than pistols
- Pirate pistols (And pistols in general) tend to be innacurate.

That's working under the assumption that Vikings didn't use Cannons on their ships, which is wrong. Vikings are most famous during the pre-cannon middle-ages, but they've thrived even after the invention of the cannon.

Just because Pirates are too disorganized to form and army doesn't mean they're exempt from this test.
In any case, if you gathered an equal number of pirates and Vikings and had them go at it, the Vikings would win, because Pirates can't work together at all. To use a Renegade metaphor, Vikings are Team Players, where as Pirates are the n00bs who try the 1-man rushes.
The score stands at 2.5/3 In favor for the Vikings.
