LOL
That is so funny!
Canada has one of the smallest, and weakest military/army/airforce/etc.
They can only afford those dinky little aircraft carriers that can only launch helo's and harriers. lol... (I only seen maybe 1 full size carrier, wouldn't give them that much credit)
Vy7a1 | "Canada's military doesnt own anyone."
i agree, (im from Canada too) but for cryin out loud, just last week one of our seakings crashed on a....well it was ONE of our boats, and i mean those seakings are freakin old, i think i heaard somewhere we bought em after WW2, i mean COME ON!!! the U.S. armed forces alone could likely take out our entire millitary force....sad
|
Those seakings are american helos (they're not that old, they're like 1970s aircraft...)

snipefrag | I am from the UK Both my grandads were in the war and they both always told me about stupid things the americans did like accidentally killing each other, and also he said that they claimed all the glory for everything the english did for example. Can you remember the "enigma" the germans secret coding device which was portraited in the film U571 the english were the actual people that captured it from the U boat not the americans.
I have nothing against the americans so dont come back flaming me if you disagree it will just prove my grandads theory that the "americans think there allways right".
1 more thing all the ships that america sold to the UK WHICH we fitted with our own interior were sold back to the americans cause our country were in so much debt (if you didnt know the UK only just paid off all the money they owed from the war about a 2 years ago) and when they got back my grandad watched as everything we had built and crafted into the ships were ripped out by the americans and thrown out into big garbage trucks and taken off to a dump and this wasnt just a few seats and a desk or 2 it was extremely expensive equipment which the UK could have used.....

*Shurgs shoulders* Sooooooo.... whats your point.

And egg what did the Germans do? They almost erased and entire race. That is something to be proud of eh?
|
No. That's exactly my point, you can't be porud of a country that's responsible for so much bloodshed.
What 'Commando' says makes much sense, btw.
What 'The One' says is one of the greates crap I've ever read, tbh.

Commando no. 448 | You know it might be interesting to watch the united states close their borders. Then we can watch as their economy falls apart as they are mainly secondary industries. Only countries with enough primary industries could successfully close their borders. The united states would run out of oil, certain metals (copper is a major one), possibly food, maybe even water if us Canadians decided to dam some of the rivers flowing into the united states. Sorry about dropping to this level but I just can't hold back on oppertunities to throw my tiny bit of mud at the hulking beast that is in bad need of a power cap.
As for Canada's military, we anything but mal-equipt. We have what we need. You don't need millions of men to defend a country from wars that will not start within 50 years. We have a navy made mainly to support the UN. We have a military to aid UN actions. And we have an airforce assist the UN peacekeep. We don't worry about wars coming to our door. Sorry again I am a proud Canadian.
DDB good luck on your dream. Nice to hear you are finaly able to have a shot at at. Though I also hope you won't be exposed to too much combat. Wouldn't want you being injured.[/b]
|
Alaska has the second largest oil field in the world. Texas can produce just as much oil as Iraq. The US is a secondary Industry???? How do you figure? If we were to close our borders the world economy would crumble. You depend on us for money to keep your countries going. Don't deny it. Where would Germany, France, Russia, China, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, U.K, Japan, Korea, Mexico..... the list goes on if it wasn't for the good ole "U.S. Green BacK"? Please tell me.Europe had to form a Unoon for its currency just to compete with the dollar, but in the end the US dollar still 0wns j00.
And food? We produce more food than you, UK, Germany and Russia combined. I'm from a state that produces more milk than anywhere in the world!

Rather than be a belligerent little child, I'm not going to point of the many problems with the American or British Military forces.
Someone in this thread said: "We have what we need." Being a peacekeeping nation, our Military is almost 100% devoted to the UN. Why else would we need it? We're not war-mongers.
I'm proud to be able to say "I am Canadian", and also be a part of our Air Force as of next year. Currently, I am working with the Reserves, and will soon be either one of two things:
1) Going to school at RMC, finishing in my 4th year with my Commission, and 2nd Leftentants.
2) Move up north to CFB Bordon and enlist as an Air Reserve until I get into RMC.
Remember, it's not the size of your Army, it's how you use it. And as far as Canada goes, we're using it for all the right reasons based on the actions of the UN.

Java,
I have nothing against the Canadian Military, but the UN is not all it's cracked up to be. Look at Bosnia(sp) they had the same kind of crap going on there as in Iraq. A leader ruling using fear and killing off "The unclean". Ethnic cleansing. Kurds in Iraq, Serbs vs Croaits(sp) in Bosnia. The UN suported going after Milosovich(sp bad) but doesn't have the balls to go after Iraq. Why? Because Iraq owes half the world money. NEWS FLASH!!! NONE OF THOSE COUNTRIES WILL EVER SEE THAT MONEY! So grab your sacks and make a stand against this tyrant.

I agree, the UN can be broadcasted as an "old guys club" when it comes to war, but since Canada has never had to actually defend itself since what, the 1800's?
We don't need a Military, but we have one to help the world, if you can call ALL the actions of the UN "help".

America isn't the only country to have friendly fire. That's just stupid to say that. Friendly fire is caused by low/poor/insufficient technology or bad communication. Not being able to detect rather the target is enemy, giving a convoy or whatever bad information, giving the wrong coordinates, etc. so that they end up in the wrong place at the wrong time. All countries, and all militaries in the world have some form of miscommunication along the way, they all make their mistakes, to single out America in saying we have the most is not based on facts, but your opinion towards America.

Nice job - once again chosing to disagee (which is certainly your right) but not providing any supporting facts/information/evidence. Bravo !

How can I possibly answer such a statement like "America does more for the world than the world does for America". I mean, what 'facts' do you want to hear? The statement itself is just so crazy that you can't debate it.
The only proper answer would be "America doesn't give a fuck about the rest of the world"

DBB | Hey. As some of you who know me or have seen my other posts might remember me mentioning how badly I wanted to join the Military or be a Law Enforcement Agent.Well, my dream was cut short because of chronic back problems. Well today I walked into the surgeons for my appointment and for the last few years I have been the things he has handed to me with tons of enthusiam in hope of improving my back in whatever way possible to live my dream. Well today he told me the words that just changed my life. He said that I was cleared and would be able to do what I wanted.
Now onto about the U.S. Army Special Forces. Its been a dream of mine to be part of an elite team like this that can go in it out without being noticed, only to leave the enemy lying on the ground wondering what hit them.Well know that im cleared to join and only have one more year until graduation I have been considering hopefully branching into that part of the service. While I still have some back problems(not enough to stop me) I am extremely fit for my age and prolly are one of the top in my school. So physically im there. Mentally im not. And I know that the special forces are all about mentality. I really dont care about people, you live and you learn and get f****d many times over. My motto is if you don't like me b*ow me. Now you might be wondering why im posting this here.......well ive been told my whole life I was a mistake and was not supposed to be born and that Ill never amount to anything, well now that I can prove them wrong I need your guys help.
Any information on being part of the Special Forces or being a Ranger would be greatly appreciated. Anyone that is actually a member or was would be even more appreciated and I would love to talk to you one on one!
Thanks so much
|
First of all, for what it's worth, I'm sorry to see that you could'nt ask for a little help without getting this shit! I think it's VERY rude when someone takes someone else's thread and turns it into a flamefest, especially when that person has a legitimate request (though I'm not suprised because it seems to happen about every time someone mentions anything about the military). I rememeber you talking about joining and I'm glad to hear that your in good health. Sorry I can't help with special forces info, I spent 4 yrs. in the Marine Corps. as an Infantry Rifleman and it sounds like you're interested in the Army. I know there are some guys here that served in the Army, and maybe once the flames die down they'll give you some info. The best advice I could give you is DON'T EVER let anyone convince you that you're a mistake or that you won't amount to anything (but it sounds like you've got that one covered ) Anyway, I wish you the best in whatever you you decide to do Let us know how it's going.

You can't argue it but I can. Let's go back in time and say there was no thriteen conlonies. Let's say england sat out on colonizing the americas. Now let's say it was now only the french in the north and the spanish in the south. They might meet somewhere around florida (spanish wouldn't head very far north looking for gold.) So now we have new spain and new france.
Still think the world hasn't done atleast as much for armerica as the america did for the world? The world created the United States. No country is has done more for the rest of the world then the world did for it. The United States owes the rest of the world its existance. All countries owes the rest of the world their existance. No country could form without the help of another. Even the first country had help from areas that would become countries
|
Good points, save the fact the French would probably flee America when the sun changed direction & they saw their shadows. (I mean for real they let the Nazi's walk in and take their country). What are you trying to get at here ? That no country should recognize or thank their founder fathers/hard work/dedication/moral principles/ppl who shed blood&died for the USA [etc] but should rather be thanking the rest of the world for their existence ?
Dear Europe, thanks for not being successfull when trying crush us/control us.
Dear Spain, thanks for taking one for the team and losing the Spanish American war.
Dear Japan, thanks for not being able to conquer us even though you also were as depraved as to use 'suicide-bombers'.
Dear former Solviet Union, thank you for letting us exist.
Dear France - thanks for the Statue of Liberty and thanks for selling Iraq military weapons as recent as January.
As of now the USA is the global super power. If we were ruthless other countries would be thanking us for allowing them to exist, not the other way around. We had to fight for this country and we won then became the super power of the world. End of story.
Your right America doesn't give a fuck about the rest of the world. Thats why we have thousands of troops in foriegn land (see Germany/Europe/Korea), send out peace keeping misions, standing up for other people (see Iraq where in the last "election" Saddam got 99% of the vote and they tallied all of this less than 24hrs) and BILLIONS of dollars in aid / loans we will never see again. But hey you just may be right...America doesn't give a flip about anyone.
You know if America weren't #1 but rather #2/#3/#4 on the "super power" list we wouldn't be having this convo - you'd be talking about how the OTHER #1 nation owes everyone else for their greatness. Stop trying to be a leach of greatness.
