How dumb can you be to buy a HDD that acually fails/crashes LOL?
(Not saying you specifically, but to anyone that, that does happen to).

It is a given that a harddrive will eventually fail. The question is when... Sometimes it is within a year, and sometimes a harddrive can live like decades.

Indeed, I had a WD that lived just under six years under really heavy use. It went out with a puff of smoke...

Ok g33k. Um, how long do they last? Long enough before its time to switch to a new comp anyway. By the right one, and there will never be a problem. Top of the line comps last about 4 years, who buys a HDD that doesn't last 4 years? Your supposed to look shit up before buying one, you dont, its your own fault.

Dumb fag, some people don't waste their money on buying a completely new computer, but upgrade things like motherboard, CPU memory videocard, and perhaps case/powersupply.
I have harddrives here that are somewhere between 8 and 12 years old, in a system which average age is about 3 years. Works fine really.
True harddrives are a bit slow, but that's not a problem as it is only used to serve some webpages etc.
Also, I have had serveral harddrives fail within 1 year, which where replaced under warranty, but still, data is still lost. Oh btw, it where your great WD branded disks...
Edit:
Oh, another thing, our server runs on 6 to 8 year old SCSI harddrives, which are still faster then most modernday hardrives you'll find in your computer. (Not counting Raptors, or newer SCSI/SAS disks)

Also not counting some seriously fast RAID 0'd Samsung solid state disks, I take it?  (Those are fast, bloody expensive though, well over £300 for just 64 GB)
