Instead of clicking on the bot from windows, run a cmd prompt (start, run, cmd.exe) and then cd to the directory where you installed brenbot (cd \brenbot_131), and then run it from there (brenbot). This way the window will not close and you can see the error message. Your config file looks fine to me, so lets see what the error message says.

Shut down any firewalls you have running and re-try it. Also be sure to type a random command after making changes or they won't work. example: type DIR

change the renrem port to 5000 in both your server.ini and brenbot.cfg see if that helps.

First of all, the IRC identifying thing is set wrong:
# Note for Nickserv auth you give the name of nickserv and the full ident string as example
Nickservauth = 1
Nickservname = Nickserv
Nickservauth = /msg nickserv identify ********

Its supposed to be like this:
# Note for Nickserv auth you give the name of nickserv and the full ident string as example
Nickservauth = 1
Nickservname = Nickserv
Nickservauth = identify ********

Autoannounce:
# Every x minutes the bot will announce a random line from AutoAnnounceFile.
AutoAnnounceInterval = 120  # every 2 mins an msg comes by :)

Use port 4848 instead, that port has always worked for me Razz
BTW, Ga(y)mespy uses alternate ports to connect fds to their networks if im not mistaken port 25301 and port 25300?
Maybe you havent set these ports in your firewall?

This seems to be a issue with the compiled exe file, and not with brenbot itself. brenbot gets executed. Not sure what causes it, but I think you would have a problem with ANY compiled perl exe file. Might be the os.

However, I have a workaround that worked on a win2000 box (running the exe does does nothing).

Install Active Perl 5.8, available at http://downloads.activestate.com/ActivePerl/Windows/5.8/ActivePerl-5.8.3.809-MSWin32-x86.msi

When I had that, my compiled exe file would run.

Try that.

Not sure exactly how to use that app, but after installing it on XP pro I still have the same problem.
