In the first version of Renguard, people would load renguard on one computer in their LAN and Renegade (with cheats) on another computer in their LAN. Same LAN = same external IP. Capiche?
|
From what I gather, the purpose of this was to fool Renguard-protected servers into letting Renegade with cheats into their games. The server would only look at the computer with Renguard and not the one with the actual game. Both computers are on the same LAN and therefore have the same IP. The server can't tell that there are two computers since there is only one IP and assumes that since Renguard didn't find any cheats on the PC it's on, there must be no cheats.
Crudely explained, but I hope it was accurate.

However, there are quite some false positives on this, so if you did nothing wrong, then ignore it.

I assume the geniuses at BHS have found a way so fix it? I'm kind of scared now that a lot of cheaters are going to hide behind a lan-exploited RenGuard...

This happens very rarely and doesn't get you banned if you got nothing to hide.

yes people have been able to use it to connect to someones name that is connected to the RG network. that dont work anymore.
noobs just go to a cirtan cheat site most of us know about and see the tutorial on doing this and go FUN! i can hack!
now when you connect to a server with a nicname that you used from the lan hack XWIS kicks you from the game server after about 2 mins. If you go in with an illegal name alot of the times the bots find you out and your auto kicked.
there are ways to get around both of those quite easy.
what people would do with the lanhack when it was just found out and when bots were just begening is they would go under a mods name. and just kick everyone in game. fun!
another thing you used to be able to do was with a NR bot. (one of the older versions last year) if you went under as the server name or as like 1234567 you could actuly crash the server.
but dont worry if some idiot uses the lan hack chances are he will get found out by the bot or kicked by XWIS.
