I'd like to know what you Canadians think about this editorial I found.
I personally think the author has a good point.

Our government is a piece of crap. It is comprised of far left-wing socialists that don't seem to understand when they are owned.

http://www.ctv.ca/generic/WebSpecials/liberal_scandal/main_frameset.html

That's just one example of how fucked up THIS government is.

Oh yeah, did you know that because of something called the Canadia Health Act, it is in fact illegal for any sort of private medical practice (implimented by another far left minority party); and while I have never personally seen an overcrowding in hospitals around here (which is surprising, living in the city that is one of the most polluted and accident prone in north america, thanks to Stelco and Defasco), it is certainly a killer to the medical profession.

Frankly, Paul Martin is a moron, and that is why I did not vote for him or his caucus. His priorities all totally messed up, and he places Canada on pedistals it does not belong on at this time for WHATEVER reason, I do not know.

Quote:

we spend a smaller share of our national wealth on military obligations than any NATO nation except tiny Luxembourg and Iceland (which has no military at all).

Lol...

Canada is just freeloading, I mean why should they spend money on a military when they have the world's largest military next door? Razz

Careful, if that were the case, we would not have rejected the missle defence shield.

I dont usually find myself saying this but...I agree with Java, the whole way. While we do tend to poke fun at the Canadien military, they are in fact, capable of their own defense without our help, which is all they need at the moment.

I really don't see where rejecting the missile defense system got us. Whether we "need" that defense or not, it's never bad to have a Missile Defense System just in case... Confused

independence is probably the reason Renx, Canada doesnt want our help, and I cant really blame them. Great countries are able to defend themselves.

I'm Canadian, proud as hell to be too.

But when I read this, it makes me angry becuase I know that people will take on the side of the author.

Canada's military is underfunded but so is over 50% of everything else in our great country! Our government just has too much on their plate regarding the combination of internal and external problems! There just isn't enough money to go around.

Maybe it's time we switch from liberal...

Missle defense? CANADA?! LMAO

Aside from Canada being a PEACEKEEPING country, we could never afford that. Our military's funds would be even more cut for stupid shit liek that which would never be used! Many countries may see that as a threat and break treaties with us.

The only reason why the US government suggested this to us is to protect the USA, not us. Canada is literally the USA's shield in missle warfare...

Canada is no way America's sheild or vice versa. America can hold its own, and has for the past two centuries. Canada doesn't need our help to protect their country, and we don't need Canada to help protect us.

Actually the reason they offered it was probably so there wouldn't be a "weak spot" in their system. Confused

No I wasn't. The liberals in charge are scandelous twits and should not be the minority. Mind you, Harper and his little tea party shouldn't be in either. Both sides are to the extreme, and both are comprised of morons.

That's right, it is underfunded... but it is underfunded comparatively. While it is always a necessity for a large nation to have a military, to have a giant military when it is really not needed is a waste of money. Have the Tories say what they will, our military is pretty much fine the way it is in our current situation in the world.

If Canada got into a major war, this would be a different story-- but since we haven't been in one since world war 2, it is only logical to downsize the military. Call it pre-9/11 thinking if you will, but if you live in post-9/11 world forever, you'll burn yourself out. Especially when your country's size is bigger than that of America.

It would be fine as it is...if our subs weren't catching fire, and our helicopters falling out of the sky. The size is fine, but the equipment is not really up to par.

They probably wanted Canada to take more of a role in our mutual defence. We are defended from threats in the air by NORAD. A joint operation between the US and Canada. It is comprised of both Canadian parts and American parts. I am betting this was just an attempt to try to get Canada more involved so it wasn't so American dominated. Maybe they wanted to build a second super command center like at Cheyenne Mountain somewhere in Canada. A Canadian missile defence system is a stepping stone towards better defence for both America, Canada and our allies.

It's only uninhabitable because it hasn't been made habitable. Pretty much all of the west was how our NWT is now. At least until it was urbanized.
