OK, all of the logos I make are out of wood, usually Poplar. I have used Oak and Walnut on some natural logos, i.e. not painted. This PlanetCrimson logo is made out of MDF. MDF seems to work a lot nicer than wood because there is no grain and you can cut and sand in any direction. The planet is 2 pieces glued & screwed together on top of each other. The shaping of the curved surface was done by hand with a rasp. I also cut out a lot of the material on the back with my Porter Cable plunge router to make the logo lighter. Then it was sanded smooth and primer put on. Then final paint and a gloss clearcoat. The letters were just cut out on a scroll saw and then beveled with my Dremel with a router attachment. I painted them all gold first but thought it looked too plain so I added the red on the sides.

Does that cover all your questions?
