if i combine those, you can actually push a patch if EA just lets you?, what if you ask them to allow you guys to patch and upgrade their old game?

Except one tiny little detail, being that EA doesn't (yet?) allow us to use the updater. But technically, it should be possible yes. Should be, as we tried to make a proof of concept, but that hang on mismatching versions of the underlying patch framework. Probably because we don't have access to the full version.
