I personally use MSE (laptop) and ESET Smart Security (desktop).
The latter is payed but can be used for free by grabbing the new trial license using NodLogin every month. I really like ESET myself but MSE is great free software (if your windows is genuine that is).
Also, what I did aswell was running the Imunizer from Spybot S&D on both my laptop and desktop for that little bit of extra preventive protection.
