I've found the 'metal' community to be incredibly easy to bait, mainly because every sub-genre has a group that believes that 'their' music is metal and everything else isn't. There's this incessant need to categorize and define sub-genres on a hilariously rigid basis (see Encyclopedia Metallum).

It also helps that many fans play guitar, turning them into pretentious dickpistons who will rage on YouTube about who the best guitarist is, until the bitter end.

That's pretty interesting, actually.

Maybe we should get the (heated) ball rolling by trying to describe what 'metal' is.
