It does.

the medium you burn it on is the same. There no difference between a special AUDIO CD (not DVD) or a normal CD apart from the quality.

If you burn it as AUDIO CD, your OS cannot copy the files. Windows shows them with a shortcut called *cda.
If you burn as mp3, ogg, wav w/e it stays a DATA disk and NOT AUDIO even If modern players can read those data.
