If you were to buy a CPU right now, choose Intel. Their "C" processors offer an 800 MHz FSB, which allows for much higher memory bandwidth. AMD's PR is not entirely accurate, with a 3200+'s performance equally only that of a P4 2.8C. It's also worth mentioning that the 2.4C is an excellent overclocker and can reach 3.4-3.6 GHz aircooled.

However, as was already mentioned, you should probably wait. Intel is about to release its "Prescott" CPU, and AMD is soon to start selling the Athlon64. Even if you don't buy one of these new CPUs, the prices of their out-dated counterparts will drop at this point.
