a 2700+ means that it is the equivalent of a AMD ThunderBird processor running at 2.7ghz. Technically.
As for an answer to the original post, seeing as how you already have a P4, I would stick with that platform unless you have a Socket 423 chip. If you have a 478 Socket, why are you running some old 400mhz fsb chip? It would be much cheaper for you to purchase a newer P4 and drop it in.
Going AMD route:
nice fairly new board - 100
XP 2500+ Barton (333) - 90
Sticking with Intel on a 478 board:
P4 2.6 (533) - 190
So, you would come out the same with less hassle and a faster processor. Now, if you have one of the older 423 P4 boards, the AMD solution would be better.
