Try links2 - it has table support and a download manager.
Opera is no-where as susceptible as IE, but java-script can still infect the user's computer.
I'd be using Opera right now, but I can't let go of my noscript and adblock plugins. And no, widgets are not the equivalent, they are toys or mini-programs running off the webkit engine.
