I'm replying a little late, and I might have said this already. I'm not against gay civil unions. I am against gay marriage though. I think that civil unions should be worded the exact same way and mean the exact same thing as marriage though. That would pretty much nullify any arguments.

when you say "love the sinner, hate the sin" what you really mean is "love the sinner, don't allow him to sin". And who says homosexuality is a 'sin'? If there has ever been a moral argument against homosexuality, I have not heard it. But you find it to be a 'sin', so it should be disallowed. Well, if I say Christianity and Islam are 'sins', is that enough to say they shouldn't be allowed?

Read the constitution by the way; the church doesn't run the government (at least, it isn't supposed to...)... by all means let a religion decide for itself who their marriages can count for when their own priests are officiating at their own churches. If gay people are excluded, the simple solution is to find a more tolerant and less backward religion, or go one step further and become an atheist.
