There has never been an instance of a police officer being shot by someone with a CCW. The amount of people that get their licenses revoked is about 4 out of every 10,000. The number of people that get theirs taken away from FELONIES is even smaller. The number of people having their licenses revoked because of murder or attempted murder? Yup, even smaller.
There was a huge concern about people turning fenderbenders into shootouts. That... simply hasn't happened, and a majority of states in America have concealed carry laws.
You're a COMPLETE fucktard if you don't believe that guns help in self-defense AT ALL. All you have to do is get on YouTube and find several instances where stores (gas stations, jewelry stores, etc...) are being robbed, and the would-be thieves are scared off by a gun.
You think the police force is going to do a good enough job to respond in time to save someone from their house being invaded? Are you sure? Perhaps you're right. Perhaps the government is fast enough. I mean, a deranged man out to hurt someone couldn't possibly get into the house and find a person locked in a room before the cops got there, could they? Plus, it's not even always about who has the quick draw. If you take away or further restrict guns, criminals know that their odds are better. No criminal wants to go up against someone with a gun. The more people with guns, the higher chance of running into a citizen with one, and bad news for the criminal.
Not only that, but criminals aren't always looking to kill. They just want to rob, rape, or assault someone. Even if they're assholes, they're not always sociopaths. In that scuffle, if someone draws a gun on them, the fight is tipped in the favor of the would-be victim, because the criminal then has to respond to the gun being drawn.
I will agree that if someone wants to murder someone else on the streets, there's not much a gun could do, but even in Detroit it's not always about murder. If it were, I doubt we'd have much of a population increase.
