Well, I did it, and I'm still typing...
Right, well I followed the steps on the video, pretty much exactly, even got the same lighter fluid.
Warning: large pictures ahead.
Here's the manufactured product, pre-soaking:

To see if the flame really was hot, I decided I'd first light the ball on a piece of paper. If the paper burned, fire = hot. I also chose a good testing place, aka, my sink. Contained area, immediate source of water incase things go wrong...


And here's what happened when I lit it up:


After about 30 seconds the paper did start burning, but for fire, that's pretty slow.
So I said hey, what the hell, and picked it up.

Turns out the ball itself wasn't THAT hot, but if you held the ball in one place for a long enough time (more than about 5-10 seconds I'd say) you are gonna get burned.
But otherwise, works fine.
