1. ARE YOU SERIOUS???? I hope that you are joking!! Well there myght be some true on it, but still.... I have This computer with windows 98 for over 2 years. I re-installed it only once, but that was long time ago.
2. What do you mean by "poor disk management"?
3. What does word "deteriorates" mean?

He is correct. Win98 may be super fast when you first install it but the longer you have it installed, the slower and slower it gets. It has many leaks and such in performance. The cheapest way to help with your problem and speed up your system would be if you could get your hands on a copy of Windows 2000. XP is good also, but it is more intensive and remarkably slower on slower computers. (It ran ok on my 300mhz I had, but it slowed after I got more programs and such on it.) When he says poor disk management, he means exactly that. Win98 doesn't handle files as well as Win2000 or XP as the FAT file system isn't the greatest, and NTFS is more reliable. (Although, several older games may not work on this type of file system... New games of course have no problems). But again, if you could get another 128MB of memory that would also help out alot.
One of my computers is:
800Mhz AMD Cpu
Windows 2000 OS
256MB SDRAM
NVidia RIVA TNT2 Model 64 (64MB)
And I averaged about 40-45FPS on Renegade... That is almost the same specs as yours except I have 2000 and 128mb more memory. So it seems to me that in your case, the operating system my be dragging you down. A word of advice though; If you do decide to upgrade to Win2000, make sure your hardware is supported and you have updated drivers for everything, otherwise it would make for a long and painful upgrade.
Sorry for the novel... lol
