I just got a new one, a Radeon ATI 9200 and something isn't working right. I'm getting worse FPS with worse quality then my old one, I think it was a nVidia geforce 2 64mb.

My old card was 64mb and my new one has 128mb, so it should at least run as fast right? It was more expensive was all I knew...

The ATI Radeon 9200 should be quite a bit faster than an nVidia GeForce 2 Very Happy

Radeon 9200 is about at the level of the Radeon 8500, which puts it at the top-of-the-line GeForce 3 (e.g. Ti500) and the lower side of the higher end GeForce 4s (e.g. Ti4200).

You definitely have some driver issues. First try removing every last spec of nVidia stuff on your system - nVidia and ATI have issues with the remnants of one causing problems in the other (probably kept there for competitive edge - e.g. if you switch to the other one, you'll think it's not as good as the original card's manufacturer so you'll go back)

After you're through with the nVidia Detonators, go through and use Windows Update to get the latest DirectX version and the latest drivers for your hardware and any patches, etc. that you don't have.

Then go to ATI's site (http://www.ati.com) and go to Customer Care -> Find a Driver. Then click Graphic Driver in the menu thing near the bottom of the page then your OS then Radeon Family. Download the latest ATI Catalyst driver, which is at this point Cat version 3.6.

You should have a nicely working system at this point - a major boost as compared to your old nVidia card if you set everything up right.

OK, this helps....

Now I've been doing my homework, and i discovered that i have a DirectX 9 (I checked by going to run and typing dxdiag) and I got the latest version at http://www.ati.com.... I think.

You see, I went to drivers, then clicked Graphics then clicked XP then went to Radeon Family...

Then it came up with a one, two three... So i couldnt decide if these were steps, or if these were different things to download, so i just downloaded the first one.... (I couldn't make since of any of them)

And you say there may still be some nVidia on my system? Give them a competitive edge eh? Sounds about right.... Mad

So if anyone out there can tell me how to fully get nVidia off of my comp I would be thankful. Very Happy

P.S. After checking that I have DirectX 9, the system compatibility check that ATI sent with it STILL tells me i have something less, and that i dont have the latest driver installed... Shocked Shocked
