Well, two days ago an epic game was released.
It rivals Portal on the 'coolness' levels, and is called Audiosurf.
Avalible from Steam for $9.95 (£5 approx) this game lets you feel the passion and speed of your music. "Ride your music", and those to The Orange Box soundtrack, and even your own music playlists from iTunes, etc. Can play a multitude of file formats, ranging from MP3 and WAV to WMA and OGG.
Youtube Videos:
DragonForce - Through the Fire and Flames
Franz Ferdinand - Take me out - Clapping and cheering is something I haven't heard, may be modded.
Portal (VALVe) - Still Alive
Rick Astly - Never gonna give you up - You just been RickRoll'd
The aim of the game is to collect 3 or more blocks of the same colour in your grid which moves under the car. You can play in different modes. Mono, (the one in the videos) collecting the coloured blocks and avoiding the grey ones. You can also play with two cars, which makes it able to play with a local friend or yourself.
The decoding part of this game will decode your music file, and create a track that curves to your music, hence the waves in sync with the beat in the videos. Also, blocks which represent parts of the music too, Beat, Rythm, Melody, so-on and so-forth. You compete for scores on an online table, and gain achievments for not hitting a grey, filling the grid with X colours, finishing the song with an empty grid, etc.
There is a free demo avalible through the Steam Client, free to install and play, however you can only play i think it's 5-6 tracks, then you have to buy it.
For £5, it's definatly a good buy, I can't stop playing it. Try the demo and then buy it yourself! =^_^=
