If you have connections through your current job I would recommend doing a bit of job hunting.

I can't speak for the UK, but over here employers seem to fall into two categories.

1. Degrees and certifications are everything
2. Degrees and certifications are just about nothing

I was talking with my future boss today and he said (direct quote) "Anyone can get a degree, I have one". I've just finished a 4 year degree and that's how much he values them.

TBH a lot of employers over here are interested in things like your work ethic, willingness to learn, previous experience etc. a lot more than a peice of paper. You may find it's unnecessary to get the job you want if you show you're competent.

I got a job over summer with the same company on the strength of: "My mate works here, and I know some php, but I'm willing to learn and I don't mind working". I ended up working there for 3 months then returning to do my last year of Uni.

Basically, find a job you know you'd be good at if you learnd a bit more, show basic competence in the area and a willingness to learn and see how it goes.
