The average front line soldier in WW2 had a third grade reading and writing level. Everyone else was put to use as an engineer/strategist/officer.

Regardless of education in the event of another WW the only test that will be conducted is an XRay. If your bones show, your in.

You're talking out of your ass. Remember that the entire population at that time was coming out of the depression era and the population as a whole was uneducated.

The military in a peacetime volunteer role is a BETTER educated force than the populace at general, and quite frequently use the military to get education to move into the private sector. Military leadership traits at all levels are highly desired and employers prefer veterans over video game playing slackers anyday.

It takes FAR more than an XRAY to get in. I recommend going through the fitering process and boot camp and see if you aren't whining by day one. These soldiers are tough, smart and valuable to society.

A) Schools were not closed during the depression.
B) Every person in my Highschool that signed up with the military was either about to flunk out or didn't have the grades to get into college.
C) Was a social commentary on the WW2 medical exam.

You need better info.

Just because low ASVAB slackers APPLY to the military, that doesn't mean they make it through training. And if they do, they CHANGE.
When they come home talk with them and see the difference in them. You'll understand.

During the depression, children were kept home to help with the farms and work in factories to put bread on the table. There was no PTA, Truancy board and certainly kids weren't CHOOSING to stay home. Life was hard and people died. Education was a luxury to the rich.

I see. Since you are one of the exceptions to the usual then all people who join the army must be secret geniuses who wouldn't even need to join the military, just that they wanted to.
