Ah but see, not all tv's have s video cables, plus svideo cables only prodice VIDEO, no sound, meaning you would need to have speakers set up also or have more cables, thats why using the ps2 makes more sense also, it has all the cables needed for basic avi playing, I mean standard cables the ps2 uses wont show anything high def, but if you want to watch dvd quality material, then it works fine, plus once you get it working it is nice, I still havent recorded the video, but I one of these days when I'm not busy I will, maybe tomorrow before i go to work.
