Hmm this thread says a lot about the Renegade community these days.

"Thanks for your application to join our prestigious community! It's been rejected."

New users are needed, and every one of them should be welcomed. Everyone started out not knowing about stuff and how it works. It's how everything happens; perhaps lighten up a little. How old were you when you joined? How did you act when you first contacted someone? Perhaps not identically, but have a think. Renegade is a computer game which is, despite its bbfc rating, targeted at people who are just the ages you're talking about!

aric:
You can get mIRC from http://www.mirc.com and here is an article on how to get it working: http://www.renegadewiki.com/index.php?title=MIRC_Tutorial

Then choose a network to connect to, that's up to you.

irc.aohost.co.uk
irc.black-cell.net
irc.n00bstories.com

are a few examples of Renegade-related ones (in alphabetical order)

To be honest, I'm one of those people who would rather have a few, intelligent members on a forum than tons of members lacking intelligence.

The fact is, I guarantee you that this kid knows what a search engine is. I have no doubts that he knows how to use one. Why wouldn't he before he asks a question? We would have answered differently if he created the thread saying, "Hey, I've heard about IRC, I've tried searching for it, but I haven't found any explanations of it that I can understand. Can someone clarify it for me?"

I realize that we're all newbies at one point or another, but there are better ways going about things than expecting people who don't know you to wait on you hand and foot. I feel the best way to learn is to do it on your own. Asking for help along the way is one thing, but making an unintelligible post asking to explain something that could be figured out by using a simple search on one of the web's many search engines is another. Put effort into figuring out what it is you want to know, and I'll put the effort into helping you.

Edit: None of you "friendly" people have helped him with what he wants. You guys have only given him IRC networks and links to mIRC and tutorials for mIRC. The only person to point him in the right direction has been me, ironically enough. I gave him a link to research what IRC was. That's what he was asking about, anyways...

whoa.
