If you are experiencing graphical problems, in addition to the already mentioned "upgrade your graphics drivers", try the following (in this order) and see if any of them help:
1.Remove shaders.sdb from your renegade data folder
2.Remove postprocess.sdb from your renegade data folder
3.Disable shaders in the bhs.dll config dialog

Some of the graphics problems are related to changes made by microsoft between Direct3D8 and Direct3D9. (for example the bullet hole glitching is caused because D3DRS_ZBIAS went away in Direct3D9 and the replacement D3DRS_DEPTHBIAS works a little differently)

I don't have problems anymore, I was just making a suggestion. Huh
