I think your question is answered in the 8th dimension flash movie.
As far as I "understand", all the possible ways in which the strings can vibrate are already accounted for in the 10th dimension. Every single possible state in which the universes could be in (every possible mode of vibration) has been included. There would be no new places to draw the line to.
I understand the question though, but I *think* it's explained...
There's a hole in the sky through which things can fly.
