Sounds like either your CD is scratched, or your drive is having trouble reading it. Do you have another computer in your house that you could try installing on? Or at least put the cd in the drive of the other computer and share it, and do the install over the LAN?

If all else fails, sometime in the near future BHS is releasing a Renegade "Quick Installer", that will be a single large EXE file that you can download and very quickly install Renegade (and optionally CP2 + RenGuard).
