...for someone whose only book they ever enjoyed reading past the halfway mark is 1984?

If you liked 1984, try:

Lord of the Flies by William Golding
Animal Farm by George Orwell
Fahrenheit 451 by Rad Bradbury
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

I've read them all except for Brave New World, which I am trying to get my hands on.

Animal Farm is short and simple, a direct fable on the downside and hypocrisy of communism.

Fahrenheit 451 is about censorship, the story set in the future in a world where books are burned.

Lord of the Flies is simply about human nature, in the story, a group of boys and stranded on an island and their own mini-society struggles and eventually collapses.
