Okay:

1) for Dual Channel to function both memory sticks MUST be identical in EVERY WAY. This means capacity, frequency, CAS latency, the physical number of chips on the pcb, ect. must be identical.

2) mixing memory clocks, even if it works, is not typically a good thing. If the faster one underclocks itself to keep pace with the slower one, great. But if the slower one tries to overclock to the faster speed, you'll probably end up with a fried stick of ram.

You're best bet is to buy matched sticks at the same time from the same manufacturer.

Depending on your budget you could pick up a gig of med-high quality memory for under $150.00USD.

I don't mean to be a whore(I work at the store in the link) but here's this.
