In that you did not police Germany out of Britian during the Battle of Britian, and in fact did not "hop the fence and beat down on you" in France and England until you suffered an attack yourself. You obviously did let your friends get picked on (seeing how Britian and France WERE your friends, whether you seem to think so or not) and merely threw them a few tools (among many OTHER countries lending actual manpower and supplies) and expected everyone else to use them.

You speak as if the United States was as powerful then as it is now. The U.S. didn't become a bona fide world power until after WWII. It wasn't much stronger than Germany at the start of the war, and the American people were afraid of the war coming to American soil. It simply did not have the resources or the will of the American people to go in immediately to help Britain. Hell, it was just comming out of a depression. It was barely prepared for the war at the time of the Battle of Britain.
