Open up command prompt Startmenu > run : cmd [enter]
In the command console type:

netstat -an

This will show all of your network connections etc. See if you find
anything suspicous. If there are alot of entries here it is mostlikely that you have a virus.

Get a free virus software package at www.Free-AV.com.

Also check with cltr+alt+del what programs are running in background.
Terminate the ones you are sure of that dont need to be there.
