Try this, get a tank...any will do, i've used a mamoth.
Go right the way round to the obelisk, wait till it charges, then back up a bit.
turn the tank to the left to face the base, then move the turret to the right.
the obelisk should not be inview. if not, turn right again, move forward slightly, rinse and repeat as necassary... try this link to view how i do it.
