you are doing the same thing i did. i manage to destroy it but it appear again and i dstroy it 3 time in a row with personnel ion cannon.

this is what you should do, reload you game and hopefully it's right before tha battle start. there will be 2 chopter bombarding at the cathedral. this 2 is the 1 your suppose to destroy so you need destroy them fast. i found both of it right in front of the second floor of cathedral. i jump out of the window with a roof right out of it. finish them and the rest will be the same.
