The missiles can't hit you if you're close enough. Mammoths are the heavy seige equipment in this game. Anybody that plays RTS's knows there's always brutes, but they always need cover. I usually get a medium tank in the late game if everybody's got mammies. With a medium you just ram yourself into the tank or sit yourself in front of the mammoth and if he's smart he'll know that the missiles curve when you shoot down and he can lob them right over you and hit the tank.
