Pretty much what it says, at the moment my fps seemns to average at about 16-20, I'd like to up that somewhat. Currently I'm runnning:

P4 2.53Ghz
512Mb DDR R.A.M
GeForce 4 MX 440SE 64 Mb DDR

Which of these would be best to upgrade to get the biggest performance jump?

Nvidia...also what res do you run, and detail? Refresh rate won't boost it unless hes maxing at 60 or 75.

Depends... how much are you going to be willing to spend, etc? If you don't want to pay a lot, the Ti 4200 would make a good choice.

Hmmmm, im currently running renegade with:

2.2 Ghz P4
512 DDR Ram
Geforce 4 ti4600 Agp 4x
Nice LG monitor 85 Hz - refresh rate set at max..

But in big games i get 30 FPS tops... like a 32 player server.
Is that normal ?

Why wouldn't it be? You can try enabling direct memory access on your hard disk drive for better performance. Access the device manager by right clicking my computer, properties, device manager, hard disk drive, settings tab and check if the box beside DMA is ticked. If not, tick and restart. If it's still ticked when you recheck, your hard disk supports it.

What does the "endabling dirrect memory acces on the hard disk drive" actually do to your computer? (in simple terms)

It allows the hard drive to access memory directly and thus speeds up your computer.

No DMA:
-Producer sells products to shop, you buy the products from the shop and bring them home

You could try to look for vertical sync somewhere in all your nVidia card settings and turn it off.

O.K, so if yout HD supports it, then it will be "ticked" after restart. if it does not support it, then it will not be "ticked" after re-start. right? So nothing bad can happen right?

DMA isn't going to affect your in-game performance one way or the other. It'll only have any kind of effect during map loads.

hhmm, weaird, its a 533 fsb core, u should be getting around 30 fps in a 50 player and in small games definitly 60, ore higher depends on refreshrate.
anyway 2 things wich would do good..
Check ure mobo, if its a 845PE chip. then u could buy a 3,06 Ghz with hyperthreading its a major boost. in programs aswell.
but the major bottlneck is ure graphics card, since its just a geforce 2 ti actualy. Like some mentioned get a NVidia ti 4200, ore any of ti series. if u dont have much $$ else go for a radeon 9600 Wink.

And install a new windows xp, i still think its slow cuz to much dirt files ore register such fps for such a machine...

DMA just allows the HD to directly access main memory without having to go through the CPU, thus, freeing up CPU time.

Ooh, nasty.

Terminator, you could always try using something like riva tuner to clock your card up a bit. What card do you have?

Remember the basic stuff like not syncing every frame, keeping the core graphics settings on low, low game resolution, medium settings etc. If surface effects are set to 2, this can impact your game. I found mine performed better at the middle.

Remember, the auto config for detail settings isn't always right. Why? It doesn't take into account the other features of your CPU, just your graphics card max power. Mine tries to set everything at max including multi-texture lightmapping and trilinear filtering. But at that, I get lower performance. I Can tell you right now a radeon 9200 SE won't perform well on max settings in something above a 10 player game. Best set everything to the second highest and change to vertex and bilinear filtering.

Just a question, but what Resolution are running at?

I have

AthlonXP+ 1800
384 333mhz DDR
Geforce 4 MX 420/64mb

and I hardly ever get down to twenty unless there is lots of stuff going on. From the sound of it, you're running at 1600x1200. Bump it down to 1024x768 and your FPS will skyrocket.

I have TNT2, but the exact name of my card is "Nvidia Aladdin TNT2". I know, it is a sh!tty card, and it came with the computer, but oh well... I have set the card to highest performace, but it did not seem to have any effect.
But overclooking destroys/damages the card or no?

P.S: I have pentium III 733, 128MB RAM. I use 800*600*16 resolution.

You just have to keep the card cool, but I don't know if I would take the time to overclock a TNT2. Smile
