I'm going to get a new computer in a few months, and I've seen a 128 MB ATI Radeon 9800 Pro video card for only 175$. The qestion is, if I get this new video card, will I see a large performance boost over my current card, a 128 MB GeForce FX 5200?

Hell yes the FX5200 is the bottom of the barrel for video cards. You will see vast improvements in quality and performance.

My Radeon 9700 Pro > FX 5200. I've seen them used side by side at max settings. The difference is very noticable. There is not that noticable of a difference between the 9700 Pro and 9800 Pro. I've run both and the main difference was frame rate. A max of 115 fps in Ren on my 9700, 138 with the 9800.

Personally, I'm saving to buy a leet computer Wink.

I'm looking for alternatives to Alienware right now...Can't really find any, not like if I'm going to buy a Dell :\.

YES the 5200 is utter crap. I bought one just because I wanted the cheapest card that had svideo output, and the svideo has interference in the signal...its totally slow too. You may not realize it now, but once you get that other card you will just as soon swat bugs with that 5200 as put it in a PC.

The leetest computer is the one you make yourself. Best value, too.

No, a GeForce 2 MX 440 is the bottom of the barrel for video cards. BTW: I'm leaning towards a Radeon 9800XT myself for upgrading my computer.

... unless you count all those other cards. i.e. NV40/R420, and, in some instances, the GeForce FX 5950 Ultra

Late June seems to be when it will become available for purchase. Its initial price will be well over the suggested $499, as can be seen in the price of the X800 Pro, which is available. Don't count on it coming down for a while.
