New Hope, a Star Wars total conversion mod for Renegade, has left the NOVA Modding Team. It's the 2nd mod to do so. Read the 2nd post on the site - http://newhope.conquergaming.com/index.php Here's a snip of it:
Quote: | As you have no doubt noticed, we are now at a new location, Newhope.Conquergaming.com. Hopefully this won't come as a huge surprise to most of you, things have been weird over at NOVA lately. There are a lot of reasons for this big move - Bryan (NOVA Admin) didn't meet any of the recruitment promises he made us, the forums were unreliable, tons of people had access to our FTP, the administration was unaccepting of negative feedback towards the end. Furthermore, because of all that happened at NOVA with the Generals mods WWIII and Energy Mod, NOVA's bad rap made it hard for us to get our news published, no one wanted to support the modding group that seemingly tried to kill those two mods. In case you didn't notice, the forums were down a lot over there, primarily because NOVA had too many people in power, and one went AWOL just about every week.
|
First mod to leave was the one I am with, WWIII: Call to Arms, a total conversion for Generals.
If you're any mod, regardless of what game, and you're looking for hosting. Steer clear of NOVA and Bryan_USMC or you're asking for a bad deal.

Something's up with their site, the news is gone.... So, I'll post the entire news post here:

As you have no doubt noticed, we are now at a new location, Newhope.Conquergaming.com. Anyway, Bryan and I got along pretty well for a while, so I hope he doesn't take this too hard. I think NOVA has just been full of disappointments for him, and for that I am sorry. In any case, though, my concern has always been with this mod and its success, and not the success of some affiliation like a mod alliance (which is basically what NOVA was).
Well here we are at Conquergaming, a general gaming site with focus on CnC in the Edge network. I think thinks here will run a lot more smoothly, be more reliable, and that when this newly born CnC website grows into something great, Renegade: A New Hope can grow with it. I hope to stay hee until the conclusion of this chapter in my life. That's saying a lot, considering all the places that SWMOD has been - We started off on Tripod.com, in a free hosting account with 5 megabytes of webspace, if I remember correctly. Then we went to Panther's world, he's the former webdesigner for Renalert. Next was NOVA, an ambitious modding alliance that never could live up to the hopes and dreams of its founders. And now we're here, at Conquergaming.com, a week-old website on a prestigious network.
I guess this is goodbye to NOVA. Goodbye to Bryan, Morphixx, everyone over at the NOVA forums, and ModernWarfare our sister mod with whom we trade talent from time to time. Sorry, Bryan, it just wasn't meant to be.
|
There's a CoD mod there too, "SWAT". They're also on their way out. If Modern Warfare has any sense, which I highly doubt they do, because they seem to enjoy Bryan's dictatorship, they'll leave too. That'll leave NOVA, with just Bryan's mod, which will die soon too. He's never finished anything he's started in his life. He couldn't even finish Marine boot camp, he deserted, was found by 3 other Marines, and got his ass kicked.
Thus, the end of NOVA and Bryan's little joy ride is in sight. I can safely say, that he brought it all upon himself, for he has no shred of proof to say otherwise.
Bryan, if you're reading this, sorry pal. I was always there for you. I tried to get you to see reason, I mopped up your messes and changed your diaper. If you just told the truth and stopped pissing people off, this never would've happened. For your info, I actually had very, very little to do with the exodus of New Hope.

AAK, Modern Warfare will be staying with NOVA until we see fit to do otherwise, or find some reason to leave. Bryan has been a great host to us so far, and he has never wronged us.

Well, I hate to break it to you, but it was. We can prove it and if you'd like to call up Comcast, they've never heard of Bryan Kircher.
See, that's the subtle difference between his case and everyone elses'. We have undoctored proof on several different levels and on several different mediums. He has his unnamed sources and his unlimited access to the databases and areas necessary to insert people's IP addresses in order to falsify records.
I've got more to add to the New Hope situation. He did, in fact, login to CuteNews using his old information, since the DB's and files were transfered directly to the site. He removed the damaging news, redirected the forums link back to NOVA AND, here's the clincher, made an account under my name before doing it all. However, EdgeNetwork staff have compared the IP addresses and can also prove it was him.
So, believe all you want. The reality of the situation is self-evident; Bryan has an abundance of hot air, while we, on the other hand, have more than enough evidence to crush any claims made by him.
Of course, we've discovered, the best remedy to cure us of Bryan's BS, is just to ignore him. See, he's driven by an oversized ego. What do egos feed on? Attention. When his ego's food supply runs short, he begins to quiet down. Note how he quickly removed the BS about me after everyone started ignoring it.
When the music stops, you're the ones who will not have a chair to sit down in. I suggest you do the math and put things into perspective. If you won't leave, at least have a Plan B to further the longevity of the mod. BTW, make sure you have a backup of EVERYTHING, even the forums, on your computer.
BTW, you're going to lose a lot of fans. He's IP banned about 11 people from the network. Anyone who speaks about where Call to Arms or New Hope went gets banned from the SERVER. That's another funny thing, anyone who disagrees with him or answers someone's question about where 2 mods went, they get banned or their posts deleted or both. Suspicious, eh?

So, where did you and WW3 go?
I would hate to leave Bryan, but you're case is somewhat convincing.

Here's a little story for those of you still at NOVA and others who still have any degree of respect for it or Bryan. Bryan is always trying to pin things on AAK625. When NOVA's forums were deleted the first time, on Bryan's account, allegedly from another IP, Bryan tried to convince everyone that it was not only AAK625's IP, but also that AAK625 had somehow accessed Bryan's administrative account, without changing Bryan's password or ever having used it before (or ever again afterwards). So that was strange incident number 1. Now it is true that AAK625 has lied before, he decieved me once, tricked me into giving him access to NOVA's FTP.
But this one is taking it a little bit too far. So here's my story.
This morning, I wake up, and am unable to log into CuteNews at our new location, Conquergaming.com. Cutenews is SWMOD's news management system that allows our staff members to post news, even if they don't know HTML. Originally the only people with accounts were my crew members, and Bryan. Bryan only had an account because he was testing things when he set up the cutenews and configured it to our NOVA location. You see, when I transferred our files to Conquergaming.com, I had simply copied everything, which left all the old accounts in place.
Anyway, I wake up this morning and my account has been removed. The first thing I did was download the current cutenews users file, which would give me the usernames of any remaining users. Interestingly enough, there was only one user left, with administrative power - under the name of AAK625. The only people with the capability to add or remove accounts were myself, DesolatorDan, IceDog90, LegoAlert, Stryker, and Bryan. All of my crew members (at least the ones who had admin privelidge) were as loyal as they come, but bryan has gone AWOL. No account ever existed under the name of AAK625, and the only person with a grudge against him was Bryan.
So here's what I've pieced together of events late last night: Sometime around 1:00 AM my time bryan finds out that we've moved. He IM's me (away message is up) a dozen angry messages about how I'm going to lose tons of publicity, and that everyone will think I'm selfish (definitely true, btw), and that my posting an appology to Bryan in our news was "unprofessional." About 10 minutes later the redirect pages that I set up at NOVA, designed to send any visitors to our old location to the new one, were all deleted, along with all of the rest of our files, presumably by Bryan. Now this next part is all theoretical, but I've run through it a dozen times and can't figure any other way this could've happened. Next, Bryan, eager for more vengeance, comes to our new site. He finds it to be exactly the same as the old site, meaning I probably just copied all the files. CuteNews is still in place, so he attempts the account which he set up several months ago, while he was installing and configuring CuteNews. It works. He immediately deletes all the other accounts, so that no one can stop his next move. He then changes his account name, formerly in the name of Bryan, to AAK625, presumably this was some primitive atttempt at concealing his identity. As AAK625 he deletes all of our uploaded files, and does who knows what else to everything he got access to.
By changing the users file in our FTP directory I was able to remove "AAK625's " account, and undo most of the damage. I am thankful that the invader got no further than our cutenews. Not only is this convenient for me, but it also indicates that the person who did this had no knowledge of hacking.
You see, if the invader did know how to hack, he would have accessed the users file for CuteNews, used a decoder to remove the encryption on my password for my CuteNews account, and used that to access the Conquergaming FTP, and wreck who knows how much havoc on everything he could access on my account.
But the invader didn't do that. This is a probable indication that the person who did this only had knowledge of CuteNews, and must have had a pre-existing administrative account. None of my crew members would feel any particular need to deprive me of my news-posting capability, or to delete our recent news posts.
So there you have it. Sorry it was so long. But I hope you understand what I'm saying here - Bryan is insane, and about as mature as an 8th grader.
