I am not sure of the legitimacy of this letter, but it does bring up some valid points. I will repeat, I am not complete sure with this letter legitimacy, or if all its content is correct.
In other words, don't flame me!

A Letter from Michael Moore to George W. Bush on the Eve of War
George W. Bush
1600 Pennsylvania Ave
Washington, DC
Dear Governor Bush:
So today is what you call "the moment of truth," the day that "France and the rest of world have to show their cards on the table." I'm glad to hear that this day has finally arrived. Because, I gotta tell ya, having survived 440 days of your lying and conniving, I wasn't sure if I could take much more. So I'm glad to hear that today is
Truth Day, 'cause I got a few truths I would like to share with you:
1. There is virtually NO ONE in America (talk radio nutters and Fox News aside) who is gung-ho to go to war. Trust me on this one. Walk out of the White House and on to any street in America and try to find five people who are PASSIONATE about wanting to kill Iraqis. YOU WON'T FIND THEM! Why? 'Cause NO Iraqis have ever come here and killed any of us! No Iraqi has even threatened to do that. You see, this is how we average Americans think: If a certain so-and-so is not perceived as a threat to our lives, then, believe it or not, we don't want to kill him! Funny how that works!
2. The majority of Americans -- the ones who never elected you – are not fooled by your weapons of mass distraction. We know what the real issues are that affect our daily lives -- and none of them begin with I or end in Q. Here's what threatens us: two and a half million jobs lost since you took office, the stock market having become a cruel joke, no one knowing if their retirement funds are going to be there, gas now costs almost two dollars -- the list goes on and on. Bombing Iraq will not make any of this go away. Only you need to go away for things to improve.
3. As Bill Maher said last week, how bad do you have to suck to lose a popularity contest with Saddam Hussein? The whole world is against you, Mr. Bush. Count your fellow Americans among them.
4. The Pope has said this war is wrong, that it is a SIN. The Pope! But even worse, the Dixie Chicks have now come out against you! How bad does it have to get before you realize that you are an army of one on this war? Of course, this is a war you personally won't have to fight. Just like when you went AWOL while the poor were shipped to Vietnam in your place.
5. Of the 535 members of Congress, only ONE (Sen. Johnson of South Dakota) has an enlisted son or daughter in the armed forces! If you really want to stand up for America, please send your twin daughters over to Kuwait right now and let them don their chemical warfare suits. And let's see every member of Congress with a child of military age also sacrifice their kids for this war effort. What's that you say? You don't THINK so? Well, hey, guess what -- we don't think so either!
6. Finally, we love France. Yes, they have pulled some royal screw-ups. Yes, some of them can be pretty damn annoying. But have you forgotten we wouldn't even have this country known as America if it weren't for the French? That it was their help in the Revolutionary War that won it for us? That our greatest thinkers and founding fathers -- Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, etc. -- spent many years in Paris where they refined the concepts that lead to our Declaration of Independence and our Constitution? That it was France who gave us our Statue of Liberty, a Frenchman who built the Chevrolet, and a pair of French brothers who invented the movies? And now they are doing what only a good friend can do -- tell you the truth about yourself, straight, no b.s. Quit pissing on the French and thank them for getting it right for once. You know, you really should have traveled more (like once) before you took over. Your ignorance of the world has not only made you look stupid, it has painted you into a corner you can't get out of.
Well, cheer up -- there IS good news. If you do go through with this war, more than likely it will be over soon because I'm guessing there aren't a lot of Iraqis willing to lay down their lives to protect Saddam Hussein. After you "win" the war, you will enjoy a huge bump in the popularity polls as everyone loves a winner -- and who doesn't like to see a good ass-whoopin' every now and then (especially when it 's some third world ass!). So try your best to ride this victory all the way to next year's election. Of course, that's still a long ways away, so we'll all get to have a good hardy-har-har while we watch the economy sink even further down the toilet!
But, hey, who knows -- maybe you'll find Osama a few days before the election! See, start thinking like THAT! Keep hope alive! Kill Iraqis -- they got our oil!!
Yours,
Michael Moore

LOL WHO THE FUCK IS THIS GUY.
To also shoot down the credibility of this. Bush is the President not the Governor.
And it is not just talk radio. I don't know a single person against this war. Even my Mother-in-law is for the war. She was a 100% home grown, down-to-earth, bra burning HIPPIE!
Fuck this guy. He doesn't speak for me. LOL, Doesn't even know Bush's title.
BTW. France wouldn't be a country if it wasn't for the US.
R.I.P. TreyD. You will be missed, but not forgotten.

Ok now, what makes you think that? I mean WTF? Are you talking about WW2? Yah right, who joined in during the last year of it? You would not be a country, none of us would, if the US did not help France and the Allies. If the US did not help? Hmm? I would hope your ancestors are Arian in that case. Do you realize how close the Nazis came to developing Nuclear Weapons?
Freedom Fries! For lords sake! They arn't even frence, and I thought the Canadian Government was childish.
Sorry, sorry, I lost control there. Everyone is entitled to there opinion, I am sure.

I think you misread my post. Both WWI and WWII the US came in and saved the day. Both times France was under German control. I don't know where you all say that the US didn't enter the war until the last year of the war. Germany declared war on the US on Dec 8th, 1941. We had troops and the Navy and Army Air Corps in Europe almost instantly.
BTW I am embarassed about the "Freedom Fries". That was lame.

No fucking shit. This isn't about the ethnic cleansing of Iraqis from the earth this is about the disarmament of Saddam which he has has 12yrs to do. If you DIDNT NOTICE we are trying to get them to GIVE UP. We dont want to KILL ANY IRAQI'S, we simply want Saddam and his pack of fuck-heads to MOVE OUT.
|
disarmament of Iraq? Iraq hasn't got ANY military left, no Weapons of Mass destructions were foubnd by the inspectors and no facts about that were presented by the US government.
"the disarmament of Saddam which he has has 12yrs to do"
that is a lie. As K9 stated correctly before, the US army won't have any problems invading Iraq, so how come Iraq has to disarm if they hardly have ANY military left? And how come YOU decide which country has to disarm and which not? And how come none of the proclaimed weapons of mass destruction were ever found by the inspectors? How come the poeple have not only to suffer oppression by Saddam Hussein but now also the occupation of the USA? Tell just one, only ONE liable and profound reason for that war.
And how come, you don't know about Michael Moore? Everyone here in Europe knows him. Ever heard of 'Bowling for columbine' of 'Stupid white men'? What Michael Moore says are valid points, and I am glad not every American is so fashist-like war-mongers like most of this forum inhabitans are.

Does anyone have a sharp pointy stick I can shove up Michael Moore's ass? I want to poke out his useless brain. That "letter" is exactly what the Democrats want everyone to believe. How DARE he attempt to speak on my behalf and the behalf of all Americans?
And anyone with half a brain knows Clinton is the one who fucked up the economy and the job market. Funny how the market started taking a dump right when things started to look bad for Microsoft. And it's also funny that now that Clinton's out of office, the government is basically leaving them the fuck alone. (Yes, I'm one of those rare people who thanks Microsoft for being the prominent software for PCs -- but that's another debate)
And when are the Democrats going to stop whining that their man won the popular vote and not the electoral vote? Seriously... our forefathers knew what they were doing when they put together the electoral college...
I'm the bawss.

It must be scarry to live in the dark. Your brain appears to function as a part time spounge for the liberal media LIE MACHINE. Just call it what is is, 'truth manipulation', 'spin', [etc] otherwise knows as lies & willing deception for the purpose of political advancement.
edit : once again this is the stuff I hate. The person who is mistaken gets to pop off a few questions then US on the other side dredge up a ton of well established facts for our response and what will we get in return ? Nothing. Another one or two sentence reply changing the subject requiring a NEW TON of data to be dredged up...

Now Carl contradicts his own statement that the markets were on the rise when Clinton left office. Using his own statements, that would mean that the markets rose as he left office because people were looking forward to having Bush in office. But that contradicts what he said later.
Conclusion: Carl doesn't know what he's talking about.

Err, rather i use the term 'left office' on to broad of a position. I didnt mean the span of like one month. to me a president might as well leave office 6 months beforehand, because its historically a fact that a president is basically powerless in the last 6 months, due to the fact that everyone just waits for the new president. its called the 'lame duck' effect. You have yet top provide one example of how he fucked the economy.

C'mon carl. Anyone who has vaguely studied the American economy knows how large it is. It can't just turn on a dime like that. Economic trending indicates it takes a full year for financial impacts to turn a market fully. It's not like the economy crashed after 9-11. It took a yaer and a half to get where we are now, and it's just starting to turn around. If the economy was at the whim of human opinion like that, we would be in big trouble.
You are a democrat aren't you?

No. For starters i HATE the party system, and i think the democrats are complete idiots. Why? Pro-choice. A Life is a life no matter how developed.
I also hate the republicans. Why? Tax cut this! Tax cut that! More money! lol.
I consider myself a 'Radical Moderate'. I fall in between everyone, and sometimes have radical views
now about the economy, your also looking at a very small picture. Look where the economy was BEFORE clinton came in. It was in shambles. Like it or not, the GOVERNMENT BUDGET was balanced. Bush pushed for tax cuts. In reality thats not going to help anything. That is unless you give power back to the states and actually decrease the size of the federal gov't. To say clinton ruined the economy makes no sense. The economy always has ups and downs. Sure it was SLIGHTLY down when he left office. But really, inferring that its due to that that we are where we are now is ludicrous. in reality the terrorists ruined the economy. It probably would have taken an upturn if sept 11 never happened. People are just looking for a scapegoat.
Really, unemployement was at it's lowest in over 20 yrs when clinton left office.
The argument that clinton ruined the economy is really a moot one. The fact of the matter is the gov't economy was in excellent condistion when he left, and the stocks were taking there usual slump that comes around every couple years. Even though out economy isnt as good right now, it's still pretty darn good. look at the stock market. dow is still above 8k. ANd one more thing.
Why is it the president always gets linked to the cause of economic status? a president can only do so much in relation to the economy. The rest is up to us as citizens, and of course, the companies, businesses and employers of this country. THEY are the root of the economy, not ANY president.

That's right. The last few years (before the bubble burst), everyone went crazy in the stock market, Buying shares of companies that weren't turning a profit, or even losing money, IPO fever, I worked at Charles Schwab during the dot-com boom, and I was there when the NASDAQ hit 5000 and never saw that number again. The stock market isn't supposed to work that way, and it wasn't going to stay that way forever. Stocks are supposed to give a moderate, modest return, maybe dividends, and be held for the long term, not skyrocketing hundreds of points in a day like I watched Yahoo and Qualcomm do.
Bill Clinton did his part in hurting the economy by spending so much time going after Bill Gates. It's difficult to find proof that he hurt the economy, because the economy is influenced overall by so many factors, but I can give you proof of plenty of other shady dealings that Clinton was involved in that would make you shit.
I'm the bawss.

K9Trooper | Basically Carl it is like this. This is fact. It takes about 6 years for the economy to reflect a previous presidency. Clinton was riding on what Big "B" had done. Most of the positive aspects of the economy from the Clinton era was the result of Desert Storm. The war created jobs and revenue. Thus a strong economy. Think about it. The "Roaring 20's" was a result or WWI. The "Baby Boom" was a result of WWII. Even during Korea and Vietnam the economy was strong. Your claim to have made money at the end of Clintons Rule I can't dispute, but since I know what was going on during that time and I didn't have all my eggs in one basket. Tells me you’re full of shit.
|
hate to disagree with you, but i have to slightly. while desert storm did help quite a bit, the biggest reason for the economy's rise and stagnation was the tech boom. more specifically, microsoft. reagan tax cuts in the 80's gave big business the money they needed to invest in new technology. along with that was the fact that the pc and internet became household items. everyone wanted in on the new craze, there was something totally new for people to go to school for and an entire new type of job market formed. this fueled the economy it also caused the market to become way over inflated. idiots were going out and getting in on the ipo of companies which had never made money and were never expected to make money. at it's height, the stock market(dow) was estimated to be at least 2000 points higher than the numbers said it should be. this was before the fall. look at it now... approximately 2000 points lower. there were many companies which started to fold because people realized that they weren't making money and wouldn't make money so they go out and the price fell. now the tech boom is leveled out, companies don't pay the high price for programmers and such. any 12 year old can put together a web site for daddy's company. now companies are being more selective about who they hire and what they invest in.
if you want another "big boom" like the one in the 90's, someone will have to come up with something new. whether it be safe economical space travel for normal citizens, a new way to cure disease which requires building all new machines, a new form of energy which also requires the use of many people...something like this would be needed because basically, computers and e commerce is saturated and now we are back to the norm and we need something new to fuel the economy and business and innovation.
