Depends on what you need it for. Macs are generally better for graphics. windows is more secure/dependable, and Linux is supposed to be good for networks.

The fourth one. Definitely the fourth choice.
"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." -- Theodore Roosevelt (1918)
"The danger to political dissent is acute where the Government attempts to act under so vague a concept as the power to protect "domestic security." Given the difficulty of defining the domestic security interest, the danger of abuse in acting to protect that interest becomes apparent. --U.S. Supreme Court decision (407 U.S. 297 (1972)

Windows is "secure & dependable?" You can't be serious. The advantage of Windows is its wide user & application base, as well as some things for the office. But dependable? No.
God is the "0wnage". Plain and Simple.

Windows is about as undependable as an OS can get. The ONLY application that ever crashes on my Mac is Virtual PC, and it's always because Windows mucked something up.

for being so "undependable" my box is sure dependable..
It's been up 42 days now without a reboot, and that's full use between 3 people including a kid who plays games and hits every button 5 times..
Windows XP simply doesn't crash.. at least mine never has.

As it has been said before, Windows just plain sucks; however everyone else uses it. That is the ONLY reason why we still use Windows. Mac OS will only sell with Apple brand computers; whereas, almost every other computer uses Windows.
Linux is great for buisness-type operations; ie: networking, stocking/shipping records, merchandise databasing, ect.
Mac OS, especially OS X, are definately reliable systems. They are also excellent machines for producing/editing graphics, as stated before. However, it lacks the diversity of sofware as compared to that of Windows.
In the end, it all depends on what the individual person wants.

I hope it's good. Does he make people ill? Does he learn how to type improper sentences? Perhaps a consistency to mis-spell words? Or maybe spam?
Better yet, he might learn to do ALL 4 in the 1 post!!

Case in point... my box at work, I kept Windows XP up for 8 weeks straight and only had to reboot because I accidentally unplugged the PS/2 mouse and it wouldn't work. The USB is broken on the board for some reason.
And yet I install Fedora on it and I can't keep it online for more than a week without something going whack.
But overall, Linux is awesome for servers and stable as hell. The n00bstories box has 149 days uptime and that's online because they had to power it down to change the UPS it was plugged into. But for a workstation, I don't really like it. I find XP to be quite stable, and if you keep up with the patches it's pretty secure.
I'm the bawss.

Alkaline | windows 2003 data center edition is the best.
|
Alkaline, its this kind of comment that gets you flamed!
Why is it the best?
I would imagine that a large number of rational people would come to the conclusion that all OS'es have their strengths and weaknesses.
I know that 2003 datacenter has support for systems with larger numbers of processors and large amounts of memory, however the Windows version that supports the most processors and ram is actually:
"Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition 64-bit"
Additionally most people usually have a budget and I don't think I gain much advantage when playing Renegade from running the datacenter edition of server 2003.
So the best (most cost effective) OS for me to run Renegade is arguably "Windows 2000 professional".
As this provides me with a nice balance between cost and stability.

I do agree that Windows XP is a huge step forward from '98 (never used 2000 or ME). I did got it to crash a few times, but usually you can just shutdown the problematic application, where with '98 the whole system would hang.
Security is another thing, but that Windows is that bad with it is partially because it is used so widely.
