I have been hearing some rumours and I am still unclear on some features/abilities of RenGuard.

#1: Will the Server Side Client made by Dante be released?
#2(goes with #1): If not, how will BR .Net/IRC scripts be able to utilize RenGuard?
#3: I hear the only way for a server to use RG is to use BRenBot, how true is that?
#4: I hear RG will have the ability to crash FDS's and other things like modify the Scripts.dll files etc. on the servers, how true is that?
#5: I need a definitive reply to this one, will or will RG not block in-game command abuse?
#6: It appears RG will have some other features like mass-hostmsgs, what is that feature for?/Will it be abused?

1. There will be a standalone SSC. I hope to use Dante's SSC but it's unclear if he will compile it for us, and continue to maintain it. Having a SSC that is not being updated when the protocol is being enhanced/changes, it's like not having an SSC at all.
2. There are alternatives. If nescessary, I will make the brenbot SSC standalone. Not mcuh work.
3. No. We won't release without a standalone SSC.
4. Not true. RG has no ability to do ANYTHING on the FDS side.
5. Not in the first release
6. Admin messages, master server shutdowns, maintenance, etc. Only the core team members have access for that. Not going to be abused.

What kind of "maitenance", just out of curiosity. Is that like auto updates etc. or something else?

Ie master server shutdown.. a message is being sent to the client(s) connected to it then.. or anything else network related where the user might have to be informed..

I see. Sounds fine to me (not sure if that matters to you lol). As long as a SSC is released for the initial release of RG I will be happy Smile

Yes there will definitely be an SSC, even if we have to use a standalone perl-compiled version until Dante or djlaptop can finish up and maintain the windows SSC.
