So, I'm having a little situation here. I'd like to play Red Alert 1 again, but unfortunately, it only works on my older PC with WinMe, not with my new one with XP. (Yes I've tried the patches and all). However, the older PC has no speakers and, well, RA just isn't the same without sounds.
So the question is, can I somehow redirect or share the sounds through my LAN from the older PC to my new PC's 5.1 speaker system? So that I could play with the other PC and hear the sounds from the other? I have absolutely NO idea if this is possible, can anyone think of a way?

i think there is some fix for playing RA1 in winxp but i have no idea where to find it.
i have it somewhere but i dont want to start looking for it since that would take a lifetime to find amongst my CD's.
try by visiting all the old RA sites or google around it should be out there somewhere.

He's already tried that, what he's asking is how to get sound from his old computer through his newer one. I would say the best way would be by Seaman's suggestion. Another way is to use a cable to plug your older computer from the port you'd normally plug your speakers into, to the "Line In" port on your newer computer. Then to stop sound coming from your old PC constantly , you can mute the "Line In" in your volume settings.

Yeah I could do that but it's a pain to swap the cables every time I play RA or do something with my primary PC, especially when the cables are behind my PC desks. I'm just trying to find a way to stream the sounds directly through LAN cables to the other PC.

Scy Ra1 Plays wonderful on XP i have it installed and play it. What you have to do is this.
Uninstall it if you have it installed. Insert the cd if it autoruns exit out of the menu. Explore your cd rom, find the setup.exe file. Right click on it go to properties, on the compatibility tab, check the the radio button to where it says run this in compatibility mode for.. and choose windows 95 , NOT 98\ME. <--important!! When that is done click apply. Run the setup.exe file.DO NOT INSTALL DIRECT X DRIVERS!! This works with both xpacks also, just run the setup.exe files in compatibility mode for win95.
As I said All things RA1 run wonderful on my system using compatibility mode.
THERE ARE NO PATCHES FOR RA TO RUN ON XP!!! Thats C&C Gold that has the dll patch NOT RA.
