The issue of suffering has been justified in the Bible by saying that God does not interfere with free will. Which seems awfully malevolant to me, seeing how Gos used supernatural forces to smite all the first born in Eqypt, and he also interfered with free will with the Tower of Babil, and the cities of Sodom and Gamora.

Religious fanatics cannot use the rhetoric that "God created the Universe" and then claim that "God didn't smite Egypt... Or Sodom... Or even the ark, because the *insert natural disaster or ghost of death here*." If God created the universe, then he also created the things which were claimed in the Bible (which so many foolishly hold to dear truth and fact without unequivocal evidence) then God DID interfere with freewill and willfully caused suffering.
