look at this:
i lend my freind my RA2 Sovite disk for a week and look at what he sends back to me in AIM when i ask for it!!!
i say: YOU BROCK MY FUCKING DISK
jigg says: i took it out and it was in peices
i say; YOUR COMP KILLED IT!!!
jigg says: usealy thay come out in a million peices
i say: THERE NOT SUPPOS TO COME OUT BROCKEN AT ALL!!!
well thats about it cuz i marched over the his house to kill him.....
how is that suppos to happen??!! he seid he looked it up online and he seid 48 speed drives will back disks if thay have the slitest defection.... WHY DO YOU HAVE TO GO SO FAST!
oh well, bound to happen sooner or later

Unless you opened up the CD-ROM case and stuck a screw driver or something like that straight through the CD, the CD-ROM will in no way break a disk, no matter the speed. I have a 52x CD-ROM, and a couple disks that are scratched too fucking badly to read from, and it doesn't damage the CDs at all. Also, the listed speed of the CD-ROM is not what it runs at all the time, and is only the maximum.

they found that most discs shatter at around 72-76x. some older ones could do so around 50x i guess. a quick google search can find lots of interesting pages and videos
