Is this just as simple as with the original Ren disks?
I have changed computers and my old renegade cd is damaged and crashes at the 6% mark with always.dat.
I have a choice to buy a new copy of plain renegade or install the first decade with Renegade.
I have never used renegade on there so can anyone tell me if there are any special requirements when installing this way? I.e can I still get onto Xwis(WOL) as I could with the standalone? Will TT install just the same as with a standalone, or do you have to install things into special directories or otherwise mess around?
Thanks
Rob

ehhh wrote on Fri, 14 December 2012 10:23 | basically just renegade with the 1.037 patch

Not required.
Install Renegade,
Download the scripts 4.0 RC1 client.
The scripts 4.0 RC1 client automatically downloads the 1.037 patch for you and then updates your files.
Make sure your run as admin for everything if your not using xp.

As you are using The First Decade, the folder selected by the TT installer is possibly incorrect.
By default, the TFD installer installs to C&C folders with the '(tm)' suffix. The registry keys don't include those so the TT installer will select the wrong folder.
Sample:
TFD Install Path: C:\Program Files\Command & Conquer The First Decade(tm)\Renegade
TT detected: C:\Program Files\Command & Conquer The First Decade\Renegade
But since that folder does not exist (or not a valid Renegade installation), TT won't allow you to continue untill you select the right path.
EDIT: Per your other topic I see you already fixed it. At least this post lets you know what the problem was.

The installer will now try the following paths in case it fails to detect the location from the registry:
C:\Program Files\Command & Conquer The First Decade(tm)\Renegade
C:\Westwood\Renegade
(If program files is located in a different location, e.g. c:\Program Files (x86), then that is used instead.)
Omar007, is that the exact path? No space before "(tm)"? game.exe is located in C:\Program Files\Command & Conquer The First Decade(tm)\Renegade\game.exe?
[edit]
From another topic, I found:
C:\Program Files\EA Games\Command & Conquer The First Decade(tm)\Command & Conquer Renegade(tm)\Renegade

I wrote that post from my laptop on which I was unable to verify the location. As you already found out, that one was incorrect.
The correct (default) path from TFD is:
C:\Program Files\EA Games\Command & Conquer The First Decade\Command & Conquer Renegade(tm)\Renegade
If you check that and C:\Westwood\Renegade, only different drives aren't covered by the TT installer yet.
If a key is found with, for instance, "Q:\Program Files\EA Games\Command & Conquer The First Decade\Command & Conquer Renegade\Renegade" which is invalid, maybe try the paths with the found drive letter?
So "Q:\Program Files\EA Games\Command & Conquer The First Decade\Command & Conquer Renegade(tm)\Renegade" and "Q:\Westwood\Renegade" in addition to the C:\ paths.
If you do that I think there is no other way to cover as much as possible without searching every folder on every drive lol.

Would you be able to update the installer for Origin's new crappy install paths? Looks like they're releasing The Ultimate with that default.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Renegade\
C:\Program Files\Origin Games\Renegade\

I have Ultimate Collection and I can confirm that the 4.x installer found it just fine.
